UVCell Solar and IOZELA Data Center

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – 25 December 2024 – In a groundbreaking move towards sustainability and technological innovation, UVCell Solar and IOZELA Data Center have entered into a strategic collaboration to develop state-of-the-art data centers in Penang and Pahang. This partnership aims to advance Malaysia’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals by creating cutting-edge, green infrastructure to support the nation’s vision for zero carbon emissions.

The collaboration will see the development of two major projects, with Penang serving as the location for a highly advanced data center complex, and Pahang becoming the site for a comprehensive renewable energy hub. Together, these projects will contribute to Malaysia’s environmental sustainability goals while boosting the local economy and fostering international collaboration.

Penang: A Sustainable Data Center with Full Facilities

The Penang data center will be developed with a strong focus on sustainability, integrating full facilities including a management office, staff accommodation, and a green plantation farm designed to enhance the overall ESG impact of the project. The site will be designed to be a green area, incorporating nature with technology to create a balanced and environmentally conscious ecosystem. The data center is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing Malaysia’s digital infrastructure while minimizing its carbon footprint.

The goal of this development is to not only offer world-class data services but also serve as a model for ESG-compliant technology. By prioritizing green practices and fostering a responsible approach to growth, the project aligns with the nation’s drive towards a low-carbon future.

Pahang: Renewable Energy Hub for Sustainable Power Generation

In Pahang, UVCell Solar will lead the development of a significant renewable energy hub, which will include a solar farm and a biomass farm, designed to generate between 300 to 500 MW of clean power. This facility will power both the Penang data center and other surrounding infrastructure with renewable energy, significantly reducing the carbon emissions associated with traditional energy sources.

UVCell Solar will establish a management office in Pahang to oversee the development and operations of the renewable energy facilities. The combination of solar and biomass technologies will help Malaysia further diversify its energy sources and enhance its energy security, while making a meaningful contribution to the country’s zero carbon emissions goals.

International Partnerships and Local Workforce Engagement

To ensure the highest standards of innovation and expertise, the collaboration will involve top-tier vendors from around the world, including Japan, China, USA, and Singapore. These international partners will bring their advanced technological expertise in the fields of renewable energy, data infrastructure, and sustainability, ensuring the projects are executed to the highest global standards.

While international collaboration is key, the majority of the workforce for both projects will be locally sourced from Malaysia, with a focus on training and employing skilled professionals from the surrounding communities in Penang and Pahang. This approach will not only create significant job opportunities but also help build long-term capacity in Malaysia’s renewable energy and digital sectors.

Supporting Malaysia’s Zero-Carbon Vision and ESG Commitment

This collaboration is in direct alignment with the UVCell Truly Asia Renewable Energy Network and Infrastructure (TARENI) project, a national initiative aimed at driving the adoption of clean energy technologies and supporting Malaysia’s goal of achieving zero carbon emissions. The projects in Penang and Pahang will contribute significantly to these efforts, showcasing how green technologies and digital infrastructure can coexist to create a more sustainable future.

Additionally, the partnership will help bring foreign investors to Malaysia, strengthening the country’s position as a hub for green technology innovation in Southeast Asia. The commitment to ESG values is expected to attract further international investment and foster deeper collaboration between Malaysia and global industry leaders.

As part of this effort, the partners also plan to meet with key government leaders at both the federal and state levels to discuss the strategic importance of the project and how it aligns with Malaysia’s environmental and economic goals.

A Step Forward for Malaysia’s Sustainable Future

This collaboration between UVCell Solar and IOZELA Data Center represents a bold step forward for Malaysia as it embraces the challenges and opportunities of the green economy. By combining cutting-edge data infrastructure with renewable energy technologies, the projects in Penang and Pahang will play a key role in shaping Malaysia’s future as a global leader in sustainability, innovation, and digital transformation.

Both companies are committed to ensuring the success of this project, which will not only provide environmental benefits but also drive economic growth, create jobs, and enhance Malaysia’s reputation as a global investment destination for green technologies.
